The legendary "Mr. Popeye" was the drummer in
a band called the Blackberry Booze Band. The band was fronted by a cat
named John Lyon and after a few line-up changes, including the addition
of Steve Van Zandt (who later became Miami Steve then Little Steven)
the band changed its name to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and
became the house band at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ playing every
Thursday & Sunday night.
